Customer Spotlight: SCA, A Leader in Sustainability

SCA Solidifies Long-Standing Commitment to Keystone Solar with Four-Year Purchase

SCA, a global hygiene and forest products company and one of the region’s most sustainable companies, recently committed to purchase wind and solar energy over the next four years.

SCA, which has been a renewable energy customer of Community Energy since 2006, purchased the equivalent of 100% of the electricity used at its Philadelphia headquarters, in the certified LEED CI Gold Cira Centre, through renewable energy.  Community Energy will supply part of the clean energy generation from the Keystone Solar Project operating in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.522030_577749232245652_1955809517_n

“As the country and state move toward a clean energy future, SCA’s participation in the Keystone Solar Project highlights our ongoing commitment to sustainability,” says Don Lewis, President, SCA Americas.

As part of the purchase, SCA supports Community Energy’s Praxis Course Materials, an online resource designed to provide students of renewable energy with a behind the scenes view of real-world solar project development through in-depth videos, documents, designs and plans typically unavailable to those outside the industry.

“SCA has been a leader in sustainability for many years.  Without energy purchases like this, renewable energy projects like the Keystone Solar Farm would not be built,” said Brent Alderfer, President of Community Energy.  “Thanks to SCA and other Philadelphia-area organizations like The Philadelphia Phillies, Drexel University, Eastern University and West Chester Borough,  Keystone Solar is a reality.  We hope that more companies will follow their lead and make the same choice to support local solar.”
