Bear Creek Wind Farm
Rural Pennsylvania has long been noted for its rugged and beautiful ridgelines, with hikers and sightseers flocking to enjoy the views they offer. These very same ridges also provide fertile ground for tapping the power of wind. In 2006, Community Energy made use by constructing the Bear Creek Wind Farm.
Powering the Mountain Region
Developed by Community Energy, Inc. and constructed in partnership with
Central Hudson Energy Group, Inc. and investment banking firm Babcock & Brown, the Bear Creek Wind Farm is 12 turbines and 24 MW in capacity. Situated in the Pocono Mountain region of Pennsylvania, this project produces roughly 75 million kilowatt-hours each year. The output is sold under a 20-year power purchase agreement to PPL EnergyPlus, LLC, an entity owned by Pennsylvania Power & Light Corporation (PPL).
