Earn Money as a Solar Host!
How It Works:
- Community Energy builds and owns a Solar Energy System (SES) on your property.
- Your organization receives an annual payment for hosting the system. The annual payment is between $0.05 and $0.10 per square foot of the area dedicated to hosting the solar system; the exact amount fluctuates based on the characteristics of each site.
- Community Energy is responsible for maintaining the system and managing the electricity offtake as well as the Solar Renewable Energy Certificates associated with the system.
- The benefits of the system are distributed to the surrounding community, enhancing your company's public profile.
Example Project: Local Farm Project
- Roof size dedicated to Solar Energy System: 30,000 square feet
- Solar system size supported by this roof: 200 kW
- Annual payment to the host: $1,500
- Upront cost to the host: $0
- Ongoing cost to the host: $0
What Happens to the Energy:
- Solar energy can be used on-site or off-site. For community solar, the assumption is that at least half of the solar energy will be distributed off-site to the grid.
- When energy is transferred to the grid, your Electric Distribution Company (WMECO, National Grid, or NSTAR) will assign credits to the Solar Energy System. These credits can be transferred to homes and businesses in the community. In other words, the benefits of the Solar Energy System on your property would be distriuted to members of the surrounding community, enhancing your public profile.
