Taking Flight with Renewable Energy

Flightstar, Inc., a small Aviation company located in Woodstock, Connecticut, has been a Community Energy customer since 2008.  “We started by subscribing at our home when it first became available in Connecticut.  The choice to have Community Energy as our supplier at our business was easy.  We love the beauty of the environment in Eastern Connecticut and want to do anything we can to help preserve it,” said Flightstar President, Tom Peghiny.

Flightstar has been manufacturing light aircraft kits here in Connecticut for twenty years and recently developed an electric powered version called the eSpyder, working with a Shanghai, China based company, Yuneec International.

The eSpyder is an aerodynamically clean Ultralight aircraft that flies with a 20 kW brushless electric motor powered by Lithium Polymer batteries.  “We realized soon after starting the project that we would be flying on wind and hydro power, which is a very fulfilling idea.  To date, we’ve had more than forty flights and enjoyed every minute of it.”

“This is only the start of the development of electric flight.  We see within ten years practical flight training aircraft quietly humming through the air which will be a big change, reducing the hourly cost and the environmental impact of the activity.”

Now with renewable energy, the sky is no longer the limit!  For more information on the eSpyder, visit www.fly-flightstar.comFor information about renewable energy for your business, please contact Community Energy at 866-946-3123 or click here
