Green Beyond their Years: Little People, Big Changes
"Little People, Big Changes" was founded by two Wilton, Connecticut third graders who came together in 2006 to identify issues that affect the world, learn about them, and take action to make changes. As one of their major efforts, Jordan and Alex believe that global warming and climate change should be addressed by kids, since kids will be the ones most affected by the future state of the environment. The then 8-year olds and their parents founded the club that has since encouraged 120 local households to sign up for the state’s Clean Energy Options program.
The boys researched the science of global warming by reading, internet research, and visits to science museums. They were most curious about the fact that the earth is now at its warmest in over 650,000 years – the farthest back that scientists can measure climate. They believe that one person can make a big difference and together we can change the world.
Jordan and Alex were honored on behalf of Little People Big Changes by the Governor’s Climate Change Committee with a Climate Change Leadership Award. They are now joined by many other kids in a campaign to encourage as many residents as possible to sign up for clean, renewable energy through Community Energy.
