American Solar-Powered Car Race Finishes in Naperville, IL
The 2010 American Solar Challenge (ASC2010) is a competition to design, build, and drive solar-powered cars in a cross-country race from Broken Arrow, Oklahoma to Naperville, Illinois. It is fitting that the race should end in Naperville, home of the nationally-ranked Naperville Renewable Energy Program with upwards of 9% of the community purchasing IL wind and solar. This year’s route was chosen to combine sections of old routes used in previous ASC races and incorporate a historical tribute of the last 20 years of organized solar events in North America.
Seventeen teams participated, including international teams from Canada, Germany, and Taiwan. Congratulations to the University of Michigan for their first place finish with their car, Infinium. Community Energy was at the finish line promoting the Naperville Renewable Energy Program and its partnership with the Illinois Solar Association.
The American Solar Challenge is hosted by the Innovators Educational Foundation, a 501c3 organization devoted to applied learning in the areas of science, engineering, and technology.
