If you’re anything like us here at Community Energy, you probably made some
sort of New Year’s resolution to be more environmentally-friendly and sustainable. But what exactly does this commitment mean in a practical sense? All the good intentions in the world don’t make it easy to do the right thing. To alleviate your concerns, we’ve compiled a list of relatively simple changes you can incorporate into your routine that will add up to a more sustainable lifestyle. You’re already buying wind energy from Community Energy, so you’re off to a great start in 2009. Here are a few of our favorites:
- Take a shorter shower! Turn off the water while you lather up. Use a bucket to collect water while it heats up and use this on your plants!
- Install compact fluorescent light bulbs in your home or office. You’ll actually save money on your electricity bill too! They can be found in most major retailers or buy them here: www.ecolightbulbs.org/store
- Keep reusable bags in your car and bring them to the grocery store to avoid plastic bags. If you must use plastic bags, remember to bring them back to the store to be recycled.
- Use eco friendly cleaning products that won't taint the water supply! Find some good ones here: www.simplegreen.com
- Check out this cool website with lots of creative environmental ideas and funny videos: www.dothegreenthing.com
- Looking to trim your printing budget and generate less waste? This eco-friendly font uses 20% less ink! Download it free here: www.ecofont.eu/downloads_en.html
- Eat less beef. The cultivation of beef in this country generates massive amounts of greenhouse gasses that are warming the planet and uses excessive amounts of water. Skipping beef even a few days a week makes a difference!
The point here is to make suggestions simple enough that you can easily incorporate these practices into your daily routine. For more tips, or other suggestions, please feel free to contact us at communityenergy@newwindenergy.com or our Blog.
