Saving the Planet One Pine Tree at a Time

Here at Community Energy we pride ourselves on the commitment and determination of our customers to help improve the environment.  While our larger customers might sometimes get more recognition or attention, our smaller customers are equally passionate and involved.  This is certainly true in the case of Mike Hunninghake and his colleagues at the Pinelands Preservation Alliance in Southampton, NJ.  Founded in 1989, this private, non-profit group is dedicated to preserving the natural resources of the 1.1 million acre New Jersey Pinelands.  Their mission is to advocate for the development of land use policies designed to protect habitat, water and open space in this treasured resource in the country’s most densely populated state.

As Director of Education and Communications, Mike plays a vital role in publicizing and communicating the Alliance’s goals and work in order to gain public support for their efforts.  He also strives to ensure the Alliance practices what they preach by implementing responsible environmental initiatives of their own.  It was this line of thinking that led them to sign up to offset 100% of their energy usage with clean, renewable energy through the New Jersey Clean Power Choice Program.

“In looking at ways to reduce our own carbon footprint, purchasing Renewable Energy Certificates was a smart and easy way to get started,” said Mike.  “We want to help fight climate change, protect the Pinelands and encourage others to choose renewable energy as well.”
