Return to Origins

This Earth Month, Origins – a natural skin care company headquartered in New York City – expanded their environmental initiatives to include a recycling and tree planting program.  Now, all Origins retail and department store counters, totaling over 450 locations, will accept empty cosmetic containers, regardless of the brand, to be recycled.  Also, Origins will be planting trees on behalf of new hires and product sales to have an even bigger impact for the environment.

Community Energy is excited about these new initiatives which expand upon Origins’ commitment to environmental stewardship and their existing wind power purchase.  In June, 2007, Origins purchased wind-generated renewable energy certificates (RECs) to match 100% of grid-connected energy needs for all Origins retail stores and manufacturing facilities.  This commitment to 7,196 megawatt hours of wind energy offsets the release of 4,000 metric tons of CO2 annually.  This purchase has the estimated environmental benefit equivalent to planting one million trees a year!

Origins’ leadership on renewable energy, recycling and tree planting are consistent with Origins’ brand and core values.  They are clearly setting a high precedent in the skin care industry and setting a positive example for others to follow.  We are proud to be working with them.
