Residential Green Power Program Update

Thank you to all residential customers who have chosen wind to be a part of the solution!  Thanks to you we are proud to announce that Community Energy currently operates 14 utility green power programs throughout the country including over 110,000 residential customers who now receive clean, renewable wind energy!

A few highlights throughout the country:

Connecticut
The CTCleanEnergyOptions program includes nearly 10,000 Community Energy customers!  Also, 53 towns in Connecticut have committed to purchase 20% renewable energy by 2010 though the CT CleanEnergy Communities Campaign, in association with SmartPower.  Congratulations are also in order for 24 of these towns, now considered Clean Energy Communities, which have qualified for a free 1 kilowatt solar panel system.  These communities demonstrate how local leadership can set an example and encourage residents to make a difference in energy choices.

Naperville, Illinois
The City of Naperville Renewable Energy Options program has successfully enrolled over 7.5% of its 50,000 total residents.  The City of Naperville proves that a significant portion of a community can be committed to clean power.

Other News
Throughout the month of April, many Earth Day festivities occurred throughout the nation.  Once such event was the Saratoga Environmental Expo and Festival in upstate New York, which drew Daryl Hannah and Ed Begley Jr.  Community Energy, in partnership with event organizers, helped to make it a carbon neutral event!  The event continued to educate the public about renewable energy issues, and encouraged both National Grid & NYSEG customers to enroll in their respective green power programs.

Thanks again to all the customers who have already signed up to receive part or all of their electricity usage from renewable energy sources.  Community Energy residential green power programs from Naperville to Rhode Island continue to grow in both popularity and participation!  But we also look to you to help us spread the word to others in your community that renewable energy is here, it’s real and it’s working.
