May 22, 2009 Green MedicineI was at my chiropractor and began thinking about how natural his office is. He uses environmentally friendly products in the office such as biodegradable cleaning products and has natural unstained furniture. He recycles the outdated waiting room magazines and the magazines themselves often have a local focus which may prompt people to participate in community activities. Even though unused rooms have the lights turned off, there is... |
May 21, 2009 Urban Biking Good for HumanityI just started riding my bicycle to work- from New York City’s Lower East Side to Madison Square Park- and I have to say that it is very empowering. No longer restricted by the schedule of the subway, I am free to ride where and when I want. Call me a romantic, but I also consider it quite unifying. Community Energy has come to understand these issues more intimately than most, as our business model is based around affecting change in these areas. However, when considering carbon pollution on a global scale,... |
May 14, 2009 Urban Composting – Part 1I did it, this weekend I finally did it. I started my own home made composting center! For about a year now, I’ve been toying with the idea of urban composting. I’ve had conversations with friends about their indoor and outdoor composting experiences, debates over worm vs. no worm systems, done research in identifying the carbon-nitrogen balance, and even consulted a friend at the Brooklyn Composting Project. After all this conversation... |
