Community Energy Earth Day Volunteer Event



Community Energy employees volunteered at a local animal shelter for Earth Day.  The shelter, the Francisvale Home for Smaller Animals, is minutes from our office in suburban Philadelphia.  The shelter is situated on a wooded property surrounded by a fence, and leaves from last fall were piled high on both sides of the fence.  We raked the old leaves into bags to be taken to a compost heap.  We raked!  We raked for hours...

Engine of the Economy



Still wondering what green collar jobs are? Maybe you heard them mentioned on the presidential campaign trail, by candidates from both parties. Maybe you have seen the numbers – wind power created 35,000 jobs in 2008 alone despite the economic downturn, many of them in manufacturing. Maybe you have read the stories about re-purposing shuttered factories and re-hiring laid-off workers to build a new energy future.

Getting Creative and Sustainable



As we all know, this is Earth Month.  Our office has decided to celebrate by taking additional initiatives to reduce consumption and increase reusing.  In my celebration of the earth, I took on some personal endeavors that have paid off in a variety of ways.

Everyday this month, I have taken the stairs instead of the elevator.  This is at least twice a day, but should I need to use something on another floor, my stair use...

Good News on Climate Change



Finally, some good news on the climate change front. It turns out that, according to a study by the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) , that cutting greenhouse gas emissions by 70% this century can greatly diminish the threats from global warming.
