March 10, 2009 I’ll Take My Phish Green, PleaseLately there has been just one thing on my mind. Okay, two things. First, is the approaching warm weather (oh hurry up, please!) and second, the upcoming Phish tour. I saw my first Phish show at Waterloo Village when I was 14, thanks to my older brother Carson. And, having been dreadfully excluded from the recent three-night Hampton run (obviously a band oversight) I am aching for the two upcoming summer... |
March 5, 2009 Where Are the Green Police?Although the shift in sustainable social consciousness continues, apparently not everyone has gotten the memo. How do we educate those who either don’t understand the consequence of their actions or just don’t want to be bothered? Is social pressure enough or do we need laws to force people to adopt best practices? I could discuss consumer decisions, President Obama’s address to Congress, carbon’s role in the coming year, or new buildings incorporating renewable and sustainable ideas. As you can see, my mind was a flurry of neuron transmissions. But, I decided I wanted my topic to be much closer to Community Energy, our Customer. Community Energy has over... |
February 26, 2009 Going the extra YardsThis past weekend, I took a moment to relax and enjoy my favorite local beer, Yards Philly Pale Ale. As I savored the taste of this crisp and hoppy ale, I wondered, “how ‘green’ is this beer?” Being that Philadelphia is the biggest small city (ever?), I have quite a few friends that work at Yards that were able to shed some insight into this question. Crafting beer produces yeast, hops, barley and water waste. Yards attempts to combat these... |
