Why do you support wind energy?  I started to purchase wind energy through a utility program years ago because I wanted to support an environmentally friendly form of electricity.  As I have learned more about wind energy, I have become aware that there are many different benefits.

Here are a few:

  • Wind energy is a homegrown source of electricity.  We do not need to import wind energy; we are tapping a resource generated right here.
  • Wind energy generates economic benefits.  The industry employs tens of thousands of workers across the country, and generates new sources of income for landowners, farmers and communities.
  • Wind energy can stabilize electricity prices because the fuel price over the lifetime of the project is fixed. The wind blows for free.
  • Perhaps the most intuitive reason that people like the technology is that wind energy is clean.  It does not emit greenhouse gases or create waste.
  • Wind energy is renewable.  We will never run out of it.
  • Wind energy facilities have a small footprint.  Land that houses a wind farm is not dramatically altered, as only a small percentage of the land actually houses turbines and access roads.

When customers sign up for our products, they sometimes mention what excites them about wind power. You may have been motivated to support wind energy for one of the reasons above, but the more benefits you see, the more exciting it becomes.  So what are your reasons? Post a comment and let me know!
