Topic: Community, Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs)

Community Energy was very pleased to once again participate in the Awareness Village at The Mountain Jam V Festival at Hunter Mountain in New York’s beautiful Catskill Mountains May 29-June 1.  This year was by far the most successful year for the Awareness Village.  Click the audio link below to hear Michael Franti’s message about some of the happenings at this year’s event.

Organized by Melissa Ephart from Woodstock Wellness in Woodstock, NY, the Awareness Village at Mountain Jam V saw a surge in foot traffic and participation.  Melissa noted, “We have made lots of strides to improve traffic in the Awareness Village this year with the addition of the Acoustic Stage, by opening up another walkway into the village and by increasing the blog posts and visibility about the village on the Mountain Jam website.”

It paid off.  Community Energy had our most successful year to date and enrolled new clean energy customers from upstate New York, New York City, New England and New Jersey.  Many other returning participants in the Awareness Village noted the increase in activity this year.  Returning Awareness Village neighbors included:

• Clearwater Festival – Great Hudson River Revival – www.clearwater.org/festival
• Riverkeeper – “Citizens taking care of the Hudson River” – http://www.riverkeeper.org/
• Rock the Earth – “Rocking the Earth one beat at a time” – http://www.rocktheearth.org/
• Head Count – “Dedicated to voter registration and inspiring participation in democracy through the power of music.” – http://www.headcount.org/
• Hudson Valley Clean Energy – “Full service solar electric, solar hot water and geothermal installer” – http://www.hvce.com/

Hunter Mountain Ski Area is already a Community Energy wind power customer for 10% of the resort’s electric usage.  Community Energy donated enough wind energy credits to offset the rest of the electricity used at this year’s Mountain Jam.

We would like to thank our friends at Radio Woodstock for hosting Mountain Jam!  Radio Woodstock is one of the few remaining independently-owned and locally-operated radio stations in the country and is known far and wide as the “coolest radio station on the planet.”  See you next year!
