Finally, some good news on the climate change front. It turns out that, according to a study by the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) , that cutting greenhouse gas emissions by 70% this century can greatly diminish the threats from global warming.

The NCAR press release is clear to confirm that emissions caused by human activities have already changed the climate and, left unchecked, will lead to dire circumstances for us and future generations.  But the idea that we are still in a position to protect the earth (and ourselves more than anything) from the most severe potential impacts of climate change is rather heartening.

I for one am very optimistic that we can hit this goal of 70% reductions this century as set out by NCAR. Just seeing how far we have come, and all the incredibly promising technologies on the horizon, makes me feel like there is a really good chance of stabilizing the climate for my kids and future generations. It won’t happen by itself; we need to make sure that we take the appropriate actions. But this study proves that we still have hope, and that is a refreshing message.
