The flexibility of the products we sell enables our customers to apply renewable energy in often creative ways. A college applies its renewable energy purchase to offset the electricity use of its dorms. A company assigns its clean energy to its retail locations or a corporate headquarters. A bride and groom green their wedding. Major League Baseball powers Yankee Stadium with wind for the All-Star Game. Community Energy has sold wind energy to accomplish all of these laudable tasks.

We even provided renewable energy certificates to offset the Al Gore-organized Live Earth concert last summer at Giants Stadium. This past weekend, we revisited the concept of “powering” a concert with clean wind energy, by partnering with the “Gathering of the Vibes” show at Seaside Park in Bridgeport, Connecticut. Now in its 13th year, the concert grew out of a memorial party for Jerry Garcia of the Grateful Dead (did you really need me to tell you who Jerry Garcia was?), who passed away in 1995. By once again amassing a talented collection of musicians on the Long Island Sound, the concert drew a large audience, a following now affectionately known as the Vibe Tribe.

As a partner, Community Energy is on the Gathering of the Vibes website, and more importantly and more fun for our staff, at the concert.  Sure we offset the entirety of the electricity consumption by a major event, but sometime between sets, somewhere between the stages and the vendors, our people spoke to hundreds (thousands?) of Vibes about wind power. We run into a lot of people excited about wind, we answer a lot of questions, and we frequently sign people up on the spot. Sometimes in an age of electronic social networking and carefully targeted direct mail campaigns, you may forget about true grassroots organizing, but CEI staff has worked hard to put a friendly and knowledgeable face to our company in numerous communities, at fairs and events.
