Three Companies Have Been Selected To Expand Vineland's Renewable Energy Portfolio
[more](Radnor, PA) – Live Earth New York, part of the 24-hour, 7-continent concert series on July 7, 2007 that brought together more than 150 music artists to combat the climate crisis, teamed with leading wind energy marketer and developer Community Energy, Inc. (CEI) to "power" the grid electricity used at the Giants Stadium concert with locally produced wind energy credits from the country’s only coastal wind farm, the Jersey-Atlantic Wind Farm in Atlantic City, New Jersey.
"Live Earth sets a new standard for educating Americans and the rest of the world about global warming with their words and their actions, and Community Energy is pleased to be a supporting partner in the ongoing Live Earth mission to educate the world to climate change challenges and solutions," said Brent Alderfer, CEI President. "Carbon neutral events powered by local clean energy sources send a strong message about the important role of renewable energy in our planet’s future."
Community Energy outreach staff on-site the day of the July 7 concert kick-off event educated thousands of concert attendees at Giants Stadium about their energy footprints and the advantages of clean, renewable wind power. Hundreds of concertgoers answered the call and took action by signing up to support wind energy from CEI directly or through their local utility.
Robert Armstrong, a Philadelphia-area resident who attended the concert decided to sign up for the local PECO Wind program after being inspired to take action by a global warming checklist that was provided at the concert. "We were inspired by the Live Earth concert to sign up for clean energy, because we’re choosing to make the planet a better place for our children," Armstrong said. "The true cost of electricity includes the cost of carbon and this decision helps to make our home carbon neutral."
100% of the stadium’s anticipated electricity usage for the three days surrounding the event will be offset by wind energy generation certificates from the Jersey-Atlantic Wind Farm. Community Energy is working with the Live Earth Green Team to calculate the electricity used for Live Earth New York and retire the requisite renewable energy certificates. The wind energy’s expected environmental benefit is equal to avoiding over 100,000 miles of driving or planting almost 40 acres of trees.
